.NET Native AOT is compilation, not encryption
Check dynamic loading and reflection requirements before measuring whether native compilation changes analysis cost.
Representation and compatibility
Microsoft documents ahead-of-time compilation and limitations including dynamic loading and runtime code generation. Native code changes the analysis path, not the secrecy guarantee. Renaming a DLL does not produce a complete AOT application.
A useful bounded experiment
Start with a computation module without UI, plugins or dynamic serialization. Retain working managed and AOT versions; compare outputs and exceptions on identical inputs, then evaluate rule recovery under the same budget. If migration costs outweigh protection value, keep the architecture and target a different core-logic layer.
Your checklist
- Resolve publish warnings instead of hiding them.
- Check dependencies and target architectures.
- Separate compilation gains from added obfuscation.
