Electron ASAR is an archive, not a code vault
Packaging JavaScript does not automatically remove readable logic. Review resources and process boundaries independently.
Packaging solves a distribution problem
Electron shows ASAR contents being listed and read as virtual directories. An archive is therefore not evidence of encrypted code. Short filenames, minification and a single packaged file do not establish that business rules cannot be understood.
Start with an isolated module
Inventory main, renderer, preload bridge and resources; remove shipped credentials first. For proprietary computation, evaluate a native module or bounded transformation alongside cross-platform build and upgrade cost. Do not trade logic exposure for broader local privileges.
Your checklist
- Inspect ASAR and unpacked content.
- Remove unnecessary public source-map information.
- Test process boundaries and updates.
