Flutter obfuscation: renamed symbols are not encrypted resources
Combine release obfuscation, private symbol retention and resource review. One build option cannot cover every protection goal.
Use the documented limits
Flutter distinguishes symbol obfuscation from resource protection and documents release builds and split debug information. Review Dart code, native plugins and resources separately. Name changes do not establish that the whole app is encrypted or protected from reverse engineering.
Maintain two release inventories
Keep a public-artifact inventory and a private diagnostic inventory. The first supports exposure and functional checks; the second binds symbols to the exact build for crash analysis. Do not discard symbols to hide names or distribute recovery files to every user.
Your checklist
- Validate the release build.
- Review resources and native plugins separately.
- Bind private symbols to the build hash.
