App Attest: server trust versus offline logic protection
Server-validated requests and offline algorithm protection differ. App Attest is not a switch that makes a client unclonable.
Read the validation chain
Apple describes app-generated attestations and assertions verified by a server. They can inform server trust decisions. A serverless app cannot reuse that decision chain unchanged, and mandatory connectivity may violate its offline experience.
Apply it by business need
For online quotas or valuable requests, evaluate attestation, request binding, fallback and privacy. For offline editing or recording, prioritize local data, core logic and distribution integrity. These paths may complement each other, but a technology choice should not force unnecessary backend architecture.
Your checklist
- Separate online requests from offline behavior.
- Define behavior during service failures.
- Do not equate attestation success with unclonability.
