Play Integrity and code obfuscation solve different problems
Integrity signals inform server decisions. They do not replace core-logic protection or offline compatibility tests.
A signal needs a policy
Google recommends tiered backend policies based on integrity verdicts and planning for service outages. A returned verdict is not the entire defense. Overly coarse rejection can harm legitimate users; weak enforcement may deliver little practical value.
Evaluate the intended threat
Test repackaging, unusual environments and request abuse separately, including legitimate devices and offline behavior. Resisting an independently replicated offline algorithm requires a different experiment. A rejected server request does not prove local rules remain unintelligible.
Your checklist
- Define backend policy and fallback.
- Measure false rejection of legitimate devices.
- Separate request protection from logic recovery.
